Election day is near...

Election day is coming up fast; Tuesday, October 8th. Advance polls are tomorrow and Saturday. This campaign has been amazing. I've met so many people who have been kind enough to listen to me and have taken the time to tell me about their concerns. There is no substitute for going door-to-door and I've gone to more than 3,500 doors in this constituency in the last year. I've also done several media interviews and participated in 5 debates, the last one was last evening in Chester. I was able to explain who I am, what I stand for and why I would make a strong MLA for this constituency. Our platform is available at: janetmla.ca

As I said in my closing remarks last evening, now it is up to the voters of Chester-St. Margaret's. We are setting the course for Nova Scotia. It is so important that constituents vote, that they make sure their voice is heard in this important decision. Please make sure you vote. Debates

Janet will be participating in 5 debates over the next week or so. They are:

September 25^th at Forest Heights High School from 10:30 am – 12:15 pm

September 26^th at Sir John A. MacDonald High School from 9:30 – 10:30am

September 26^th at Shining Waters Marina on Hwy 333. Starts at 7 pm

October 1^st at The Shore Club in Hubbards. Starts at 7 pm

October 2^nd at the Chester Legion from 7:30 – 9:30 pm

This is an opportunity to hear the candidates answer questions from different groups and debate the issues facing the constituency of Chester-St. Margaret’s. Please try to attend.

Jamie on the South Shore

On Friday Jamie Baillie joined me for some campaigning in Chester. We then travelled to Snyder's Shipyard in Dayspring. Joined by other South Shore candidates Brian Pickings and David Mitchell, Jamie reiterated the PC platform of Change That Works. Specifically, how the PC platform will support small businesses in our rural communities to create jobs here.

Campaigning on Big Tancook Is.

Today Butch Heisler accompanied me going door to door on Big Tancook Is. It was a beautiful September day to go to the island. Voters on Big Tancook Island want good fiscal government that meets their needs. They are concerned about the debt, sustaining their rural way of life and what the future holds for their children. I was able to explain how a Progressive Conservative government will address those concerns and provide a better future for them and their children.

Commuter campaigning

I, election team members and supporters were up early this morning greeting commuters at Tantallon and East Chester/East River. The response was great...lots of waves, thumbs up and honking of horns. Very encouraging. We'll be back.

Hubbards & Western Shore Parades

My husband Daryl's mom, who was from Meteghan, used to say "The sun always shines somewhere in Nova Scotia on Saturday's". Despite a forecast of rain, the sun came out and gave us a perfect Nova Scotia day for the annual parades in Hubbards and Western Shore.

And, as usual, the crowds came out to support all of us taking part. These parades are a wonderful example of the spirit of our rural communities and show why we must make sure they survive.

The parades are a great opportunity for me to meet residents and say hello again to people I've met before. Congratulations to the organizers and communities of Hubbards and Western Shore for terrific parades and great community spirit.

World Tuna Flat Championships

The annual World Tuna Flat Championships were held today in Hubbards. I and the rest of the 'Da Babes' team: Sarah Archer, Gail Dominey & Joanne MacDonald were there to defend our Women's World Tuna Flat Champions title which we won last year. Competition was stiff this year as was the breeze. After winning 2 heats we were in the final against team 10271. They jumped to an early lead that we just weren't able to overcome. But it was a great time! Congratulations to team 10271.
